Isle of Palms, SC

Wild Dunes & Charleston

Fazio golf on a barrier island with Charleston's food scene twenty minutes away.

The place

Wild Dunes sits at the tip of Isle of Palms, a barrier island just over the connector from Charleston, with two Tom Fazio designs inside the gates — the Links Course, his first solo design, winding through dunes to the water, and the Harbor Course dancing along the Intracoastal. Days end on the beach or at the resort pools; nights belong to Charleston, twenty-odd minutes away, where King Street and the city's famous kitchens turn a golf trip into an eating trip with golf attached.

Where you crash

The resort

Wild Dunes Resort — Sweetgrass Inn & villas

The Sweetgrass Inn anchors the resort with pools, spa and dining, while boardwalk villas put the crew steps from the beach and both first tees.

◆ The private house

The Private House

An Isle of Palms beach house — ocean off the deck, grill going by six, and the Wild Dunes gates ten minutes up the island. Oceanfront and second-row rentals run deep along Palm Boulevard.

5-6 BR · sleeps 10-12 · ~$1,200–$3,500/nt

The 5-day plan

  1. 1

    Arrive & the beach

AM Road-trip day to the coast — over the connector by afternoon.

PM Unload at the house, toes in the Atlantic, shrimp and grits on the island.

  2. 2

    Harbor Course

AM Open along the Intracoastal — keep it out of the marsh.

PM Beach and pool; first big Charleston dinner downtown.

  3. 3

    The Muni & the city

AM Cross town for the restored Charleston Municipal — value golf, real soul.

PM Walk King Street, oysters at a Charleston institution, rooftop nightcap.

  4. 4

    Links Course — the Cup

AM Fazio's dunes for the team match — the waterside closing stretch decides it.

PM Trophy dinner back in Charleston; cigars on the beach walk home.

  5. 5

    Sunrise walk & home

AM Beach sunrise, one last biscuit run, then the drive home.

Why it wins

Two Tom Fazio courses, a beach out the back door, and America's best-eating city across the bridge. The trip for crews that rank dinner reservations right behind tee times.

Booking notes

Resort-guest packages cover both courses; the Links is the marquee, so lock it first. Book Charleston dinner reservations when you book the golf — the good rooms fill fast in spring.
