Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Riviera Maya

Jungle golf and cenote swims — a PGA Tour host an hour from your swim-up bar.

beach-recoverycenote-countryshort-flightstour-host-jungle

The place

The Yucatán's resort coast turned itself into Mexico's golf capital, and El Camaleón at Mayakoba is the flagship — the Greg Norman design that brought the PGA Tour to Mexico, winding through jungle, mangrove and limestone with a cenote gaping in the opening hole. Nicklaus's 27 holes at Moon Palace, the Dye-family test at Playa Paraíso and jungle corridors toward Tulum fill out the week. Between rounds: cenote swims, Playa del Carmen's Quinta Avenida, Mayan ruins and the kind of beach recovery domestic trips only dream about.

Where you crash

The resort

Fairmont Mayakoba

Inside the Mayakoba enclave with El Camaleón out the door — lagoon boats between pools, a beach club, and tee-sheet priority where it matters.

◆ The private house

The Private Villa

A staffed villa in Playacar or along the Mayakoba corridor — private chef for taco nights, pool deck, and Quinta Avenida ten minutes away.

5-6 BR · sleeps 10-12 · ~$1,000–$4,000/nt

The 5-day plan

  1. 1

    Short flight & the pool

AM Morning nonstop into Cancún; transfer down the coast by early afternoon.

PM Pool and beach shake-out; tacos al pastor on Quinta Avenida.

  2. 2

    Playa Paraíso

AM The P.B. Dye brute — survive and advance.

PM Cenote swim to cool the scar tissue; beach club sunset.

  3. 3

    Jungle 27

AM Moon Palace's Nicklaus holes or Riviera Maya GC toward Tulum.

PM Tulum ruins above the sea or a deep-sea charter; mezcal tasting at the villa.

  4. 4

    El Camaleón — the Cup

AM The Tour host for the team match — clear the cenote, claim the cup.

PM Trophy dinner on the sand; one last round of palomas.

  5. 5

Last swim & home by dinner

AM A final swim and huevos rancheros, then the short flight home — most crews land by dinner.

Why it wins

The shortest-haul international trip in the catalog: two-to-four-hour flights, a longtime PGA Tour venue, jungle-and-mangrove golf all down the coast, and recovery amenities — beach, cenotes, tacos — no domestic trip can match.

Booking notes

Cancún (CUN) has nonstops from practically every US hub — two to four hours in the air. Skip the rental car: arrange hotel transfers or a driver for golf days; the courses run along one highway, 15–60 minutes apart. El Camaleón tee times pair with Mayakoba resort stays and book first; most other courses confirm inside a month. Winter is high season — lock flights early.
