Crumpin-Fox Club

A New England cult classic in the quiet corner of Massachusetts — pure golf, no scene.

The place

Tucked into the hills where Massachusetts meets Vermont, Crumpin-Fox is the kind of course golfers whisper about — a Roger Rulewich design routed through hardwoods and ponds that has topped New England public-golf rankings for decades, with a name and a logo that belong on a headcover. There is no casino, no beach and no spa; there is exceptional golf, a proper clubhouse, and a Pioneer Valley full of farm-to-table dinners and country roads. In foliage season the whole trip turns into a postcard. This is the purist's pick — quiet, affordable and quietly great.

Where you crash

The resort

Deerfield Inn

A historic inn on the old street of Historic Deerfield, fifteen minutes south — creaky-floor charm, a good tavern, and museums for the rain day.

◆ The private house

The Private House

A converted farmhouse or hillside house in the Pioneer Valley — barn views, a firepit, a long dinner table, and Crumpin-Fox fifteen minutes up Route 91 country roads.

4-6 BR · sleeps 8-12 · ~$350–$1,200/nt

The 5-day plan

AM First lap of the Fox — learn where the ponds bite.

PM Brewery stop and a grill night at the house.

  3. 3

AM The away round — Taconic if the window opened, The Ranch otherwise.

PM Williamstown or Northampton wander; farm-to-table dinner.

  4. 4

    The Fox — the Cup

AM The team match back at Crumpin-Fox with local knowledge in play.

PM Trophy dinner at the clubhouse or the house; bonfire and cigars under the stars.

  5. 5

    Country breakfast & home

AM Diner breakfast, a farm-stand haul for the road, then the drive to the airport.

Why it wins

Golfers' golf at honest prices: a beloved Roger Rulewich design that regulars rank with New England's best public rounds, surrounded by farm stands, foliage and small-town character. The anti-resort trip.

Booking notes

Tee times book direct and are refreshingly attainable — foliage weekends are the exception, so lock those early. Pair it with a Berkshires or Pioneer Valley house and build the eating itinerary with as much care as the golf.
